Nurse Practitioner Helene works at the Haywood Hospital Walk In Centre in Stoke-on-Trent, but her previous experience as an A&E staff nurse at Stafford Hospital led to her becoming a key witness at the Public Inquiry led by Robert Francis QC into the failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust.

Privacy and Dignity in Hospitals CQC Report

The Care Quality Commission today published its first dedicated review of privacy, dignity and nutrition in both care homes and hospitals.  http://www.cqc.org.uk 

Although community hospitals in North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent were not inspected, another recent similar review found that all five hospitals managed by the Partnership Trust were rated as "excellent" in all five areas looking at privacy, dignity, nutrition and hydration and cleanlines.

Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership Trust wins contract to provide Sexual Health Services in Shropshire

Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership NHS Trust is this week celebrating after being awarded the contract to provide sexual health services for people in Shropshire.

The Partnership was awarded the contract by Shropshire County PCT following a rigorous tender process. The Trust already provides all sexual health services in Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent and this is its first out of area contact. It will run for three years, and will commence on April 1, 2013.

Community Matron Jane Wins £75,000 NHS Innovation Prize to Boost Health Services for the Homeless

Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust Community Matron Jane Morton has been awarded an NHS Innovation Challenge Prize of £75,000 to support her work caring for rough sleepers in Stoke-on-Trent.

In partnership with the Brighter Futures charity, Jane has had a significant impact on resolving the housing and health problems of rough sleepers in the area, with A&E admissions for homeless people in the area dropping by 95%.

Partnership Trust Receive Excellent Score in Friends and Family Test

Staffordshire and Stoke On Trent Partnership Trust have received excellent scores in a survey which asks patients to rate the care which they received from the Partnership NHS Trust.

The Friends and Family Test, a monitoring system which is backed by PM David Cameron, will be implemented in all acute inpatient wards and A&E’s by April 2013. However, all Trusts are being encouraged to use the test to monitor patient feedback.

Hospital Visitors Urged to Help Beat Norovirus

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust is asking anyone planning to visit its hospitals to stay at home if they or their family members have had diarrhoea, vomiting or ‘flu-like’ symptoms in the last four days.

Director of Nursing and Quality and Director for Infection Control Siobhan Heafield said "Some of our community hospital wards have already been affected by norovirus and for the time being Sneyd Ward at the Haywood Hospital and Aynsley Ward at Longton Cottage Hospital are not admitting new patients.

"Visitors are still welcome however we  remind anyone who has been affected by sickness or diarrhoea symptoms to not visit until they have been clear of symptoms for at least four days," continues Siobhan.

Frontline Staff Join the Fight Against Flu

Community health and social care staff across Staffordshire are joining the fight against seasonal flu by making sure they are immunised against the virus to help protect their patients and clients.

Flu can have very serious consequences for people with long term health conditions, elderly people and pregnant women. All staff working in frontline health and social care jobs are encouraged to get the free vaccination at a series of sessions being held in work bases across the county.
