Changes proposed to locations of community Musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy services in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire

Changes proposed to locations of community Musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy services in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire
01 December 2017

Patient engagement events are taking place over the coming weeks to give the public a chance to have their say on proposed changes to where community MSK physiotherapy services are offered in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.

Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent NHS Partnership Trust (SSOTP) is commissioned by North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to deliver MSK physiotherapy services in the community.

An agreement has been made between the CCGs and SSOTP to set a consistent 3 week waiting time target for routine MSK physiotherapy patients across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. Previously the target has varied for the two areas. A redesign of the service has also been agreed in principle between SSOTP and the CCGs.

Kieron Murphy, Director of Operations at SSOTP, explained: “In order to achieve the 3 week target and deliver a better service for our patients, as well as to help create a more efficient and sustainable service for the future, SSOTP is proposing a reduction in locations from where MSK physiotherapy services are offered.

“Our staff are currently spending valuable clinical time travelling between locations and performing administration tasks that if streamlined would release clinical capacity back to the service to meet the levels of demand and better deliver high quality patient centred care.

“We are now keen to get the views of our patients and the general public on these proposals to ensure we get this right for our patients so please do come along and meet a member of the team at one of the drop-in sessions taking place in December.”

The patient engagement events will offer an opportunity for the public to find out more about the new service arrangements and ask questions and give views on the proposed location changes.

The events will take place on the following dates:

  • Audley Health Centre – Wednesday, December 6th, 10am-11am
  • Madeley Health Centre – Wednesday, December 6th, 2pm-3pm
  • Fenton Health Centre – Thursday, December 7th, 10am-11am
  • Longton Cottage Hospital – Thursday, December 7th, 2pm-3pm
  • Bentilee Neighbourhood Centre – Friday, December 8th, 10am-11am
  • Burslem Health Centre – Friday, December 8th, 3pm-4pm
  • Bradwell Hospital – Monday, December 11th, 10am-11am
  • Leek Moorlands Hospital – Monday, December 11th, 2pm-3pm
